Walk Off The Earth Baby Quilt

Remember those rainbow fabrics from my previous post?  Here's the finished product:

I apologize for the terrible pictures.  Sadly, I spent a decent amount of my online time this week reading up on the best ways to photograph quilts.  These pictures break every single rule given in those instructional articles, but I couldn't wait to post this quilt because I am so thrilled with how it turned out.  Hopefully you can get the general idea from these middle-of-the-night, dark, blurry photos.  If it's sunny in the morning, I will take some better outside pictures to share.

Finished measurements are approximately 39" x 49".  The picture above does not show the entire quilt, as my couch is not the most versatile of quilt models.

The front is pieced of various tones in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet (Yes, I skipped indigo.  I wanted an even number of sections.).

The back is a print that was given to me by a friend who decided to give up on sewing.  I don't think they even make prints like this anymore, but it was exactly what I wanted for the back of this quilt.  My favorite guy is the blue man with the purple hair in the top right (and lower left) of the photo of the backing.

The quilt is bound with a rainbow stripe.

I used a rainbow cross-hatch to applique a "WOTE" onto the bottom of the blue section of the quilt.   WOTE stands for "Walk Off the Earth".  Please continue reading if you wish to understand.

This is a baby quilt born of my wish that one of my friends would announce a pregnancy.  I had so many quilt ideas bouncing around in my head at the time that I felt like I needed a specific recipient in mind in order to narrow down what I wanted to make next.  Unfortunately, none of my real life friends are currently pregnant.  However, just a couple of days after I made my wish for a pregnancy announcement, one of my favorite bands, Walk Off the Earth, announced that two of the members are having a baby together.  Obviously, my wish had been granted.  I heard their news, got very excited for them, and then this quilt appeared clearly in my mind.

If you guys have not heard of Walk Off the Earth, you should check them out.  They are fantastic instrumentalists, have beautiful voices, and just seem like they are all-around positive people.  Their website is here.  I love their videos because this is a group that maintains an air of still being incredibly grateful for their fame.  I know that they worked very hard to be where they are today, but I feel like I can still see them thinking, "How did we GET here?"  Their fame, by the way, is growing by the day because these guys are just so talented that their fame train can't be stopped!

So, I'm going to be a creepy fan and send them this baby quilt.  Hopefully, they will love it and use it and it will become a Gianni and Sarah family heirloom.  Realistically, maybe they will just give it to charity and someone else can use it and wonder why it says "WOTE".  I just knew that when I saw it in my head, I had to make it.

Have you ever had an idea like that?  Impractical, and yet you know you've just got to do it?  That's probably how Walk Off the Earth felt when they started posting videos to YouTube in hopes of catching the world's attention.

    1. Thank you! I'm usually not a big fan of rainbow; I tend to lean much more toward monochromatic quilts. But this is the way it popped into my head, and I decided to go for it!

A little crafty stretching never hurt anyone. :)

    1. I'm hoping I can find an address to send the quilt to. Otherwise maybe I'll just send it care of their record label? I've asked for an address, so we'll see if I get a reply!
