20 Minute Curtains (with Instructions!)

I resolved to make a post at least once every two weeks.  The majority of my time since the year change has been spent making serious repairs to my house after the flooding that occurred the day after Christmas.  Yeah, happy holidays, right?

In the spirit of repairing the house, I put together a quick pair of curtains for our bedroom.  I bought the fabric on sale for $1/yard at the local fabric store.  No one doesn't love the clearance section!  So, this is my very quick, simple project for this week: 20 Minute Curtains.  You can turn them into 10 Minute Curtains if you skip the ironing.
Because these are pretty straightforward, I thought I would share some quick instructions for those of you who wish to make your own super easy 20 Minute Curtains.

Supplies: 4 yards 45" wide cotton, ruler or measuring tape, thread, sewing machine

Step 1: Iron two 2 yard lengths of 45" cotton until you are satisfied that you can live with the number of wrinkles that remain.  (I'm not a real stickler for wrinkle-free home goods, but if you are, please feel free to remove every single last hint of a wrinkle.)

Step 2: Fold a 4" hem on the top of each curtain.  Press with iron.  Tuck raw edge under again by 1/2" and iron again..  Sew 1/4" away from the newly folded edge to secure the wide hem at the top of the curtain panel.  Backstitch at beginning and end of row to secure.

Step 3: On bottom edge of each curtain panel, fold hem up 1/2", iron, and then fold up 1/2" again.  Sew 1/4" from edge of panel to secure bottom hem. Backstitch at beginning and end of each row to secure.

Step 4: You're finished!  Check your clock.  Did that take less than 20 minutes?  I bet it did!

Heads up!  Check out the lower left corner of that picture up there for a sneak preview of an upcoming post!

  1. Now, I expect you to have another post before the end of the month! Lovely green on the walls, by the way. I like the direction you're going by including other quick sewing projects. :-)

  2. Thank you! I just made another post, so I am sticking with the new year's resolution. I have had 3 sewing machines break down on me in the last month and a half, so it has really slowed down my progress and added a serious dose of frustration to this whole endeavor! Thanks for keeping me accountable. :)
